with and itemized statement and supporting documentation ie: invoices paid, receipts from payment,):
As detailed in our previous quarterly report, the LTAC funds awarded to the Wooden Boat Foundation were
fully spent by the end of the 3rd Quarter, with the Festival taking place the weekend of September 5-7. This
week, we received a preliminary Economic Impact report on the 2025 Wooden Boat Festival from NOAA
(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) federal economists.
According to Travis Grout, Regional Economist at the NOAA Office for Coastal Management:
"A conservative IMPLAN model suggests that the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival contributes
at least $2.2 million to Jefferson County GDP (value added) and $1.1 million in income to local
workers (labor income): an impressive economic impact for a three-day event in a city with 10,000
residents."
We will receive the complete Economic Impact report in mid-February, at which point we can verify these
numbers and make more detail public. The overall economic output of the 2025 Festival was nearly $4
million. On average, each attendee from Jefferson County spent $96.06 at the Festival, each attendee from
the rest of Washington state spent $250.52, and each out-of-state attendee spent $528.23. As mentioned
previously, our Visitor Feedback Survey revealed that the 2025 Festival drew 21,198 visitors, with 5,724 of
those coming from out-of-state and at least 40% being new first-time visitors. Our leadership is over the
moon to see these concrete metrics, which prove the Wooden Boat Festival’s ever-growing impact on
Jefferson County tourism.
We are pleased to report that, as projected ahead of 2025, we were able to expand local lodging inventory
for those attending the Festival, providing overnight accommodations within financial reach for more
people. We successfully enabled access to visitors for whom affordable overnight accommodations had
previously been a barrier to attendance, an effort which promises to further diversify our attendance
demographics.
The promotional campaigns supported by LTAC grant funding in 2025 accomplished significant outreach in
the realms of print advertising, social media promotion, public radio and television publicity, and regional
postering; our Visitor Feedback Survey tied our year-over-year uptick in attendance numbers directly to
these campaigns. As always, we are grateful for Jefferson County LTAC ’s support of our work to grow the
Festival and help increase tourism revenue. We are happy to provide more details as they become available
or answer any questions upon request.
