Hi Brenda,
As an immigrant and naturalized citizen, I’m very concerned about the possibility that I might lost my right to vote.
This article highlights just some of the errors made by DHS’ new “SAVE” program:
https://www.propublica.org/article/save-voter-citizenship-tool-mistakes-confusion (copy attached).
“People who’ve been flagged by SAVE in error say it’s jarring to have to provide naturalization records to stay eligible to vote when they know they’ve done nothing wrong.”
I know that our state is working hard to protect the information in the voter rolls <https://www.sos.wa.gov/about-office/news/2025/secretary-state-steve-hobbs-responds-doj-letter-voter-registration-d
ata> . But there’s a lot of time between now and the next general election for the administration in D.C. to try to use SAVE and other methods to disenfranchise voters.
Secretary Hobbs’ letter to the DOJ <https://www.sos.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2025-09/9.23.2025%20Secretary%20Hobbs%20DOJ%20Response.pdf>
I hope that your elections department is keeping close eye on this and that residents here aren’t subjected to the same indignities and assaults on their rights as have already been
inflicted on residents of some other states.
Thank you for all that you do for our county.
