Celebrating the Life and Honoring the Contributions of Rev. Jesse Jackson
Today we honor Rev. Jesse Jackson, a distinguished leader whose work expanded participation in American democracy and broadened access to the ballot.
Through Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition, Rev. Jackson built cross-community alliances grounded in shared responsibility, economic opportunity, and inclusive civic engagement.
During a time when many voices were marginalized in national dialogue, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that participation was accessible to all communities.
His presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988 energized voter registration efforts, elevated issues important to diverse constituencies, and demonstrated the power of coalition-building
across differences in race, region, and political affiliation. He consistently challenged the nation to uphold its democratic principles and framed unity as a shared commitment to progress.
Rev. Jackson’s enduring contributions to civic engagement and voting rights continue to influence new generations. We acknowledge and honor Rev. Jackson's exemplary leadership, the
pathways he helped create, and his steadfast commitment to ensuring that every voice is heard and every vote counts.
In the words of the late and Honorable John Lewis, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” May he rest in peace and power, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
