Dear Commissioners:
I realize this letter is too late, as you've already decided on the new landfill. I've just been aware of it over the last month, seeing it in the leader.
I'd like to know how you came to abandon the 152-acre present site for the more remote 37-acre site?
I'd like to know if you've run the economics of expanding the present site vs new construction on the more remote site?
More recently, HWY 19 seems to be a steady stream of cars coming and going, with little chance of entering the highway from a side street. Putting the landfill near Hwy 104 will certainly
exacerbate this, not to mention unsecured bits of trash between Port Townsend and the new site, as you see on Jacob Miller Roadway. Add to that, each vehicle will spend at least 1 gal
of gas or more to make that trip. The tire tracks on the roadway are missing multiple 10" square chunks of surface that have peeled away, and won't get better with more traffic.
While I apologize for my late comments, I hope you will tell me how you've considered these things when you answer.
Sincerely,
Gregg Knowles
