HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter of Support Hoh Safe Homelands Roundabout - Honorable CantwellHeather Dudley-Nollette, District 1 March 2, 2026 The Honorable Maria Cantwell United States Senate 511 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator Cantwell, Board of County Commissioners 1820 Jefferson Street PO Box 1220 Port Townsend, WA 98368 Heidi Eisenhour, District 2 Greg Brotherton, District 3 On behalf of the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners, we write in support of the Hoh Indian Tribe's request for Congressionally Directed Spending for the Hoh Safe Homelands Roundabout Project. Over the last several years, the Hoh Indian Tribe has developed and is in the process of executing a long term plan to locate housing and community buildings on higher ground for the safety of the community. The Hoh Indian Tribe's new housing development area is being built on tribal land in an area just off of Highway 101. In addition, the Hoh Indian Tribe will be building an economic development project, including a travel center, across Highway 101 from the tribal housing area. Highway 101 is currently a high-speed traffic area serving Jefferson County and other Washington state residents, tourists, and logging trucks. However, with a new residential area and travel center area being built, it is critical for the safety of all drivers that a roundabout be constructed. The Hoh Safe Homelands Roundabout Project will provide Tribal residents safe access to the new Hoh Highlands housing area and Highway 101 while providing other drivers safe access in to and out of the future travel center. This is an important project that the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners supports for the safety of our community. Sincerely, Greg Brotherton, Dist. 3.
