Appointment of Samuel Shusterman to Peninsula Housing Authority
STATEME:-;T OF ISSUE:
The Board ofeounty Commissioners is requested to appoint Samuel Shusterman as a Jefferson County
representative to the Peninsula Housing Authority.
ANAL YSIS:
Last year the Housing Authorities ofClallam and Jefferson Counties merged into the Peninsula Housing Authority.
The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners is able to appoint three Jefferson County representatives to
the Housing Authority's Board. T\vo positions \vere previously appointed, and this current proposed appointment
would be the third.
On February 22, 2011, the BaCC interviewed four candidates for appointment. It was an excellent panel of
applicants, and Jefferson County is fortunate to have such dedicated and talented citizens \villing to contribute to the
greater community.
Mr. Shusterman brings a particularly strong background in housing finance and law. He practiced law in California
and served as senior counsel to the California Department of Housing and Community Development and the
California Housing Finance Agency, both of\vhich dealt \vith housing finance. Before that, he \vas in-house
counsel for a bank and other financial institutions advising on single and multi-family lending programs.
\-Vith the need to expand the stock of subsidized and affordable housing in Jefferson and Clallam Counties, Mr.
Shusterman's legal and financial experience in housing v,,'ould be an excellent addition to the Peninsula Housing
Authority's Board.
FISCAL IMPACT: l\one.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a motion appointing Samuel R. Shusterman to the Board of the Peninsula Housing Authority, effective
immediately for a term ending February 28, 2014.
