RE: Replacement oftbe WSU Jefferson County Director
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
WSC Jefferson County Extension wishes to inform the community and the Bacc about the
process required by WSU to search for and replace the Director of WSU Jefferson County
Extension.
ANALYSIS:
Katherine Baril has recently retired from her position as the Director of WSU Jefferson County
Extension. Linda Fox, Associate Dean of WSU Extension, and Pamela Roberts, Interim Director
of WSU Jefferson County Extension, will present information to the BOCC about the process
used to hire the new permanent Director of WSC Jeffcrson County Extension. This required
hiring process ineludes guidelines for the involvement of a variety of community stakeholders, as
well as elected officials and staff members. The position of WSlI Jefferson County Extension
Director brings university-level leadership to a variety of areas in our community, including
economic development, food and farming, 4-H youth leadership, master gardeners, beach/water
watchers, water quality, as well as natural resources education and management.
FISCAL IMP ACT:
This action indicates an on-going commitment by both WSU and Jeflerson County towards the
costs of maintaining this valued leadership position.
RECOMMENDATION:
WSC JetTerson County Extension requests that the Bacc and the County Administrator
formally coordinate \vith WSU to begin this process of hiring.
