I am writing as a concerned parent and resident of Port Townsend regarding the ongoing budget challenges affecting the rec center and its affiliated programs.
These programs play an essential role in the health and vitality of our community. They provide families with opportunities for recreation, connection, and enrichment—elements that are
critical to making Port Townsend a place where people can build and sustain their lives.
As we consider the future of our town, it is important to recognize that strong family-oriented resources are key to attracting and retaining a diverse and stable workforce. Healthcare
providers, educators, and other essential professionals are far more likely to live and work in a community that actively supports families. Without these programs, we risk limiting
our ability to grow and maintain a balanced, thriving population.
I urge you to prioritize identifying sustainable solutions to keep the rec center and its programs operating. Their continued availability is not just a benefit, but an investment in
the long-term strength and resilience of our community.
