Dear County commissioners,
I am an uptown resident with two children. We regularly use the uptown playground multiple times a week and use the rec center many times per month. The rec center and the playground
are staples of our county resources. Because of these resources, we patronize uptown businesses more frequently and we gather with friends and community members there. Come to see the
swarm of kids at the rec center playground on any given farmers market day and you will immediately see this central resource must be saved.
That the county is suddenly calling this a budgetary emergency and that there isn’t funds through 2026 to keep these going makes no sense. If that were the case, it would have been visible
a long time ago that budgets were not sustainable. Why didn’t the county raise these issues long ago? vast amounts of time and money were dedicated to public comment on the future of
the golf course. Why is this suddenly happening without a long wind up of bringing community members in to be part of a solution?
We must find a way to save the playground and the rec center and the community must be brought in with enough time to be part of the solution.
