Dear Commissioners,
We were appalled to learn that not only the Rec Center but also Memorial Field and youth sports are all on the chopping block, without the county having made the effort either a) to
open a giving window with JCF, as promised, or b) to take the time to engage the community in discussions about funding priorities or alternative ways of keeping these services funded,
through collaboration among the community, the city, and the school district as well as the county. You know that Jefferson County is in many ways a hard place for kids and families.
These services are essential to us. We recognize that there are many demands on the county budget, some legally mandated. At least give us a chance to work toward solutions together.
We have made a donation to the newly opened JCF fund, and together with other families will be taking unpaid time off work and taking kids out of school to show our support tomorrow
morning. We are investing in good faith efforts, and hope the county will do the same.
