Good Morning to our awesome County Commissioners,
Thank you for passing the Proclamation yesterday supporting
immigrants rights in very specific ways.
That whole process happened so quickly, I was impressed.
I hope my comments yesterday were “relevant enough” to the
Proclamation you had just passed. My “whole systems” mind
was so impacted by listening to the previous hour about Rec
Center concerns, I kept thinking how so much of our County
financial and program viability concerns are on the front burner
as a direct consequence of the Big Bad Bill that took money
away from things supporting the state and local good programs
and directed it into the funding of our noxious ICE deportation
military and the creation of a country we no longer recognize.
I mentioned in my comments the notion of “soft secession”. I
have only started learning about it, but it directly relates to the
task in front of us to find ways to keep funding the Rec programs.
I am attaching a provocative interview with Chris Armitage who,
as I suggested yesterday, I believe is from Washington. If you
have not heard much about soft secession, I wanted to know
what you think about it once you listen to this exchange. It is
a fundamental shift that increases state and local responses to
address our rights and responsibilities when we no longer can
believe those concerns will be addressed federally. I find the
thoughts of Chris Armitage hopeful, inspiring, offering ways to
envision supporting our local programs and needs as we realize
the very real risks of living under a current regime that is so
corrupt and cruel and has no concern for the very real needs
of everyday people.
I know your plates are more than full, but if and when you have
the time to listen to this, I would welcome hearing your thoughts
about the option of soft secession. I could imagine, through my
connections to Indivisible, perhaps, finding a way to bring this
innovative thought leader here, to Jefferson County, and maybe
even SOON.....
With respect for all of what you do, and who you are.

This is the most inspiring 40 minutes I’ve listened to in forever. I may need a fifteen minute daily peptalk.
