As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion, and out like a lamb, but it feels like this lion has been roaring since before Christmas. A thousand-year flood event and tens of millions in damage to county road infrastructure, a sixty-day legislative session, the opening inaugural call for our Local Road Program, more rain, the flu (at least in my household), and of course, the day-to-day responsibilities we all manage. That lamb cannot come soon enough! While it has been busy, it has also been extremely rewarding. After the December flood event, CRAB went to work to respond to our county’s needs. Working closely with our County Engineer Association partners, we were able to secure $30 million from the Legislature to provide zero interest loans to counties as they work to recover. The inaugural call for our local road program is a milestone event for the County Road Administration Board. The first new grant program at CRAB in almost four decades, for roads never before eligible for state grant dollars, is the start of what we envision to be a program that is long-lasting and becomes a staple of the support we provide to county road departments.
