April is National County Government Month!
This April, we’re proud to celebrate the essential role counties play in shaping strong, vibrant communities across our beautiful state of Washington. From the front lines of public
service to the halls of Olympia, counties lead with innovation, build resilience, and ensure the voices of local communities are heard.
Our 2026 theme, “We Are WA Counties, 39 Counties Strong,” highlights the collective strength, unity, and impact of county government across our state. Every day, counties support economic
growth, safeguard public safety, strengthen our democratic processes, promote public health, maintain critical infrastructure, and protect Washington’s natural environment—just to name
a few.
Throughout April, we’ll be shining a spotlight on the incredible work happening in counties across Washington as we highlight the strong partnerships that make this work possible, including
the many affiliate organizations and departments we collaborate with every day.
Follow along, share the stories, and help us amplify how counties are making a difference in our communities. And keep an eye out, because brand new swag is on its way to help you join
in and share the pride with your fellow elected officials and staff!
A Message From Your WSAC President
Each April we join colleagues across the nation in celebrating National County Government Month—a time to highlight the essential role counties play in the daily lives of our residents.
This year, as the Washington State Association of Counties embraces the theme “We Are WA Counties, 39 Counties Strong <https://members.wsac.org/admin-portal/email-engine/link/MzE2ODI5LWFiM2VjY240VTA

Association of Counties and its new “We Are Counties <https://members.wsac.org/admin-portal/email-engine/link/MzE2ODI5LWFiM2VjY240VTA5Uw==/2/k0I---plus---kM---plus---zP4sMpgHttT1BzJDPJpNX7K0ETdZjxfi

NACo’s "We Are Counties" initiative reminds us that while this work is vital, it is not always well-understood. We are being encouraged to tell our story more clearly and consistently,
highlighting how counties serve as the foundation of local governance and community well-being. In Washington, that story is of course strengthened by collaboration through WSAC, which
for more than a century has brought together commissioners, councilmembers, and executives to advocate, share knowledge, and advance solutions for our communities.
“We Are WA Counties” is more than a slogan - it reflects the collective strength of all of counties working together to address complex challenges every day. It also reflects the power
of a unified voice, ensuring that county priorities are heard at both the state and federal levels.
– Clallam County Commissioner and WSAC President, Mark Ozias
