RE: DISCUSSION of Mini-Survey design and results
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) and county staff had previously discussed the
implementation of a series of short surveys that could be offered to Jefferson County residents
as a tool for engaging feedback on a variety of topics. To test the use of a short-survey tool, an
initial survey was offered at the Jefferson County information table at the Connectivity Summit
event on March 27-29, 2026. The county's Communications Specialist published this initial
survey on Jefferson County's Facebook and Instagram pages a few days before the event, and a
paper version was also made available at the event on March 28 and 29.
FISCAL IMPACT:
If the surveys are conducted using current software, there will be no significant fiscal impact
except the use of staff time to design, draft, publish and report the survey results.
RECOMMENDATION:
Review survey design and results from the first "mini-survey" conducted in March. Discuss
community feedback as well as the intended purpose of the survey. Decide whether the BoCC
would like to publish a regular community survey. If so, discuss frequency, which survey tool(s)
to use, how the surveys should be designed, and how the questions will be selected.

-Question 2: 2 paper responses included "Email" AND "Social Media"; 1 paper response
did not choose a way to receive communication
-Question 3: if participants wanted the "other" option, they did not vote "yes" or "no"
-Due to the free platform that we utilized, people can take the survey multiple times
-We could filter out non-Jefferson County residents (1.7% of survey participants)
