Dear commissioners,
Thank you for the special meeting tonight. I didn't realize you would be making a decision about the levy lift at tonight's session.
It seems there are 2 potential solutions moving forward, a county wide levy lift and a community initiated MPD. While you fear we may not pass an MPD, we worry that a levy lift is another
bandaid and short term solution to a much bigger, long term funding problem. If we are able to pass a PT focused MPD, it would take a huge financial lift off your plate (rec center,
memorial field, programming), and allow you to use recreation funds you do have for much less expensive county park maintenance. It also gives citizens the autonomy they want to grow
and develop future parks and rec and if successful could grow to a larger district.
I would hate to confuse voters and potentially sabotage both of our efforts by running simultaneous campaigns aimed at saving parks and rec. Given that an MPD, if successful, would meet
competing needs and long term serve your budget significantly, would you consider waiting on your levy lift measure and giving us a chance to succeed? If we don't, then we can throw
our support towards a county wide levy lift. If you choose to push ahead, while there is still growing interest for a community-led initiative, you may not have the overwhelming support
you need to be successful.
Hoping we can find a way to collaborate towards a similar goal rather than competing
Best,
Judy Gayne
