Hello!
My name is Jesse Helin and my wife and I live at 71 Muncie Ave in Quilcene. We are right in the action of the Big Quil River Project, and it's been fascinating to watch this past year!
A couple weeks ago a surveyor was out and shared the new proposed maps for the end of Muncie Ave. As seen below, the new map differs pretty drastically from anything that we had seen
posted. One thing that stood out to us and our neighbors was the proposed location of the parking lot.
Is there a way to hold off on construction of the new parking lot until we can have a community meeting to discuss moving the proposed lot to the current county lot attached below? Most
of our neighbors either have young children or are elderly, and the neighborhood has seen first hand the issues traffic on Muncie Ave has caused this past year. The county lot seems
a natural fit as it will be right next to the new river, and anyone accessing the river would already be driving past it. This location would drastically reduce unnecessary traffic
through the neighborhood, while not increasing the traffic anywhere else.
I've taken up the charge since many of our neighbors don't use computers, but every house on the street shares our same concern. One source of frustration I've heard from everyone is
the lack of information regarding changes to the project scope. I'm more than happy to receive any information and get it out to our neighbors.
I've also been talking frequently with Gus from the Salmon Enhancement Group. He's been really receptive to our concerns and awesome to work with; however he let me know that we needed
to be talking with the county directly regarding the use of 101 Rogers as an alternative parking option.
Please let me know if there is anything that our Muncie community needs to do to formally request a deeper look at this piece of the project.
I really appreciate it,
Jesse Helin
