Email Kellie Henwood, kellie.henwood@wsu.edu <mailto:kellie.henwood@wsu.edu> or text/call (360) 774-3009 Clallam Conservation District, Jefferson County Conservation District, and WSU Extension’s Regional Small Farms Program are planning on submitting a funding proposal request to the Sustainable Farms and Fields Program with the Washington State Conservation Commission for fiscal year 2027. Sustainable Farms and Fields <https://wsu.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=360ae1ff3a734621548b3598 b&id=aee53e1681&e=bae7ffec58> (SFF) is a grant program that makes it easier and more affordable for farmers and ranchers to implement climate-smart practices and projects that increase carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through SFF, farmers and ranchers may receive free services — such as on-farm consultations and other technical expertise — and financial assistance to help cover the cost of eligible projects, equipment, seeds for cover crops, and other expenses. The Conservation Districts and WSU Extension will provide both virtual and in-person educational field days and workshops as part of this funding program. To maximize the benefits of this funding for Clallam and Jefferson County farmers, we are seeking farmer feedback through a survey to understand the most requested uses to help tailor our SFF application to the needs of local farmers. Who is eligible to apply? Farmers, ranchers, and commercial food producers. Non-profits may be eligible. Home gardeners are not eligible recipients for this funding at this point. Purchasing of cover crop seed is the main priority for this round of funding. However, examples of potential grant-eligible activities include: * Providing personalized and on-site technical expertise, such as developing climate-smart farm plans. * Purchase of cover crop seed and soil amendments. * Sharing the cost of climate-smart practices/projects, such as planting trees/shrubs, implementing no-till/direct seed, managing manure storage and application, planting cover crops, composting/mulching, and purchasing precision agriculture equipment/technology. * Purchasing shared-use equipment (e.g., roller crimper, no-till drill, etc) made available for regional farmers. * Demonstrations of climate-smart practices not commonly used in a particular area.
