HomeMy WebLinkAbout041626 City of PT Neighborhood Newsletter cityof ort -- JownsendAPRIL 2026 Background: The project budget consists of a $2,992,000 grant from the Transportation Improvement Board (TIB), utility funding, and local Transportation Benefit District (TBD) funds at $475,000 for a total of approximately$4.1 million. Project planning has been ongoing. A kick-off corridor walk-through occurred in August of 2025,with forty plus community members participating. Since the corridor walk,the project has come before City Council twice (10/20/25 & 11/17/25) and was presented to Disability Awareness Starts Here(DASH—local group) in November 2025. The project concept has also been presented to the Historical Preservation Committee (HPC) in December 2025. In January 2026, the Fire Department and City staff met onsite to discuss the project design. Recently,the 60%design was completed by the City's engineering consulting firm,SO Alliance, and was reviewed by City staff. Design work now continues. This City of Port Townsend newsletter is intended to provide information about the Lawrence Street Project to adjacent property owners, residents, and businesses. You are receiving this newsletter because you own property that is within 300 feet of the project. Periodically you will receive a newsletter as the project progresses through design and construction. It is anticipated newsletters will be published from now until the end of 2027. What is the project scope? The diverters will also visually narrow the street, which encourages lower speeds. Lowering speeds on Lawrence Street to the posted 25 mph speed limit is a key objective of the project.
