Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzalez may have been pressured into giving up their seats in Congress, but they are still eligible to receive taxpayer-funded retirement benefits.
That’s unacceptable.
Representatives Subramanyam, Walkshaw, and I have been working across the aisle with Congresswomen Boebert, Mace, and Luna to prohibit any Congressperson found guilty of sex crimes,
crimes of violence, or of engaging in sexual relationships with their staff from receiving a taxpayer funded pension.
I am proud to stand with survivors in the face of a Congress that has – for far too long – protected violent and vile men.
The time for accountability is long overdue. No more taxpayer money should be going into the pockets of sick and twisted people. That’s what the Congressional Pension Integrity Act would
solve for.
There’s no excuse for members of Congress using their status and power to engage in sexually or otherwise violent behavior or relationships. Full stop.
Americans are sick of being let down by the people elected to represent them. We already strip taxpayer-funded pensions from Members convicted of corruption, bribery, and treason – sexual
assault and harassment must be taken just as seriously.
That’s what you sent me here to do: to fight corruption and abuse of power. That's exactly what I’m going to do.
