Hello,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Lucia, and I am currently working with the Earth Law Center and the Elwha Legacy Forests Coalition on a campaign to mobilize public support for
and engagement with the WA Department of Natural Resources' Elwha River Watershed Survey.
In 2025, the WA State Legislature gave the DNR $250,000 to conduct an analysis of the ecological and conservation values of the Elwha watershed on state-owned lands managed by DNR. The
study process culminates in a report to the WA state legislature. The report includes recommendations as to what should be included in the new conservation area, and public comments
gathered through DNR’s Elwha Watershed public survey form.
This public survey gives us a chance to protect the last remaining legacy forests and reimagine stewardship on a watershed scale! Your input will be included in DNR's final report to
the state legislature. Responses to the survey are due by June 15, 2026.
We would like to have the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee engage with this survey, as we believe your input is extremely valuable in highlighting the importance of conserving
the Elwha River Watershed.
