As long-time residents of Gardiner, we have endured years of out-of-control fireworks and drunk and disorderly behavior at the Gardiner Boat Ramp, the surrounding beach, adjacent roadway,
and boat ramp parking lot. The following is a list of some of the issues:
Fireworks set off in close proximity to tall trees, brush, and dry grass posing extreme fire hazard.
Fireworks are no longer just firecrackers and sparklers, but include large bonbs, mortars that travel in erratic directions and blow sparks everywhere, and rockets that travel 1/8th
of a mile and explode.
Partially spent fireworks landing on adjacent rooftops, in yards, and on cars and RVs parked in driveways. This is dangeruos and traumatizing not only to local residents but also pets
and livestock.
The out-of-control behaviors include public intoxication, fighting, and street racing endangering residents and their guests, many of whom are children..
The 4th of July in Gardiner has evolved into a dangerous fiasco that has little, if anything, to do with patriotism or the celebration of Independence. The presence of law enforcement
is very helpful; however, their resources are limited.
We sincerely hope you will vote to ban fireworks in Jefferson County.
