Hello, my name is Kevin Mccaw and I am voicing my opposition to Sheriff Pernsteiner's prisoners for profit scheme and I would like to bring up a few points to consider. #1 Nothing says
welcome to our tourist town like a militarized police force and a local sheriff running a prisoner for profit scheme. It's shameful and internationally embarrassing. Police officers
in Victoria, BC wear polo shirts. #2 Profit schemes now give officers an "incentive"and create "quotas" which lead to civil rights violations. This story has been told too many times
in this country and it's shameful. #3 It's a stain on a good cop's uniform and a stain on our community. Police lie. It's their job, police are trained to lie effectively and efficiently,
and that's been cleared up as "legal" by our supreme court. What civilian oversight committee is keeping this in check? This is a recipe for disaster that's been played out in many
communities across America. We don't want a militarized police force terrorizing our community and children for profit. This scheme further erodes trust in law enforcement and will
not help community relations. #4 Optics, I am calling on the commissioners of Jefferson county to stop this scheme before tourists are greeted with petitions to recall Sheriff Pernsteiner
and Stop prisoners for profit schemes. It's a bad optic, it looks bad, it will affect tourism and economically hurt businesses. Thank you for your time in reading my concerns.
