The power of photography is undeniable. A single image can transport us to another place, evoke deep emotion, and inspire people to protect what they love.
In fact, photography helped save the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
In 1976, the bill to establish what we now know and love as the Alpine Lakes Wilderness was in trouble. At the request of local advocates, then-Governor Dan Evans met with President
Ford and shared a stunning photo book of the Alpine Lakes published by The Mountaineers just a few years prior. Moved by the beauty of the images before him and recalling his own love
for the outdoors, President Ford signed the Alpine Lakes Area Management Act, permanently protecting over 300,000 acres of this pristine land.
Now, 50 years later, we’re preparing to celebrate this monumental conservation victory, and we want your photos to help tell the story.
