Join us June 20th for our first History Hike of the season!
Did you know Port Williams was once a town with its own post office, hotel, and wharf?
Join North Olympic History Center Executive Director David Brownell for a history hike exploring this once-ambitious townsite on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. What is now a simple but
beautiful county park was once the bustling center of commerce for east Clallam County in the 1880s.
Together you'll explore how this small maritime gateway connected the Sequim-Dungeness Valley to Seattle and beyond—and why the town never fully developed as its promoters once hoped.

Celebrating the life of Eugene Rothschild
Eugene Ernest Rothschild, the youngest Rothchild sibling, was born on June 7th, 1885. In 1959, Eugene deeded the house and its contents to Washington State Parks and restoration began
the same year. By 1962 the house was opened to the public, and by 1970 the property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since the 1990s, JCHS has operated and stewarded
the home in partnership with State Parks, offering seasonal open hours and tours.
Thanks to Eugene's generous act, visitors can step into the Rothschild House today and experience an authentic glimpse into the life of this extraordinary family and the heritage of
Port Townsend.
