Appropriations – EPA and Public Lands Funding Proposals Introduced in House
On May 20, the House Appropriations Committee began consideration of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 appropriations bills that fund the U.S. Department of Interior, the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) and other key agencies in the energy and public lands space. Key county priorities within the proposal include full funding for the Payments In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) Program,
funding for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), and a slight decrease in funding for the Water Infrastructure Financing and

Artificial Intelligence – President Signs Executive Order to Improve Cyber Defenses as AI Models Proliferate
On June 2, the White House issued an executive order (EO) to improve cybersecurity defenses across critical infrastructure sectors against vulnerabilities as new and emerging artificial
intelligence (AI) models are increasing in sophistication and scale. The EO calls for increased voluntary collaboration between government agencies and technology companies to test
