RE: Invitation for Advisory Board Input on High-Level 2027 Workplan Priorities
Dear Advisory Board Chairs,
As we continue moving through our 2026 workplan together, I'm writing to invite your board's input on
potential strategic priorities for 2027. The City Council, City Manager, and Department Directors will
gather for an all-day workplan workshop on July 13, 2026, to begin shaping those priorities and, later in
the year, will use those priorities to develop the accompanying 2027 budget.
Your perspective matters to this process. We're not looking for deep detail; rather, we'd like to hear
what 2-3 priorities you and your board believe are most important to consider within the scope of your
advisory role. We're also genuinely interested in any broader reflections you'd like to share: what's gone
well, what hasn't, and what else we should be weighing as we build our 2027 approach.
A quick note on capacity: roughly 90% of the City's overall workplan is driven by statutory requirements,
which means there is limited room across the organization to take on additional work. With that in
mind, we encourage you to be thoughtful and focused as you identify your top priorities.
Your City staff liaison will work with you to place this item on an upcoming agenda, with the goal of
getting responses back to the Council by June 26. Please reach out to them with any questions in the
meantime.

you also for the information you provided that helped inform that summary, and for sharing your
current workplan with us.

I was grateful to see many of you at the recent Advisory Board Handbook mixer event. You can find the
handbook online here:

Finally, a note on membership: if your board has open seats or anticipates vacancies, now is a great time
to think about recruitment. Bringing in new members strengthens your work and deepens community
investment in the issues you steward. Please don't hesitate to connect with your staff liaison about the
recruitment process.
I want to close by thanking you and your fellow board members. The work you do adds lasting value to
Port Townsend, and the role you play in fostering productive, civil public engagement is essential. My
Council colleagues and I are grateful for your service and look forward to continuing this work together.
Sincerely,
Amy Howard, Mayor
