I am writing to urge you to not allow the tribes to take complete control of protection island. I do understand that they once owned it all, but that does not mean that they should
have completely control of it now with no oversight at all. Right now, the environment and the birds are protected because the government, the people AND the tribes all have input.
That is the best way to preserve these precious environments for decades to come. Political winds come and go, both in our government and in the tribes leadership. The best way to
protect the island is to continue to allow input from everyone.
Why do the tribes need complete sovereign ownership with no legal requirement or guarantee that public concerns will be heard? What do they want to do that they can’t do now?
Please do anything you can to keep the current management in place and protect the unique environment and seabirds that nest on protection island.
