In late April, I began hosting two data center webinars each week for NACo members sharing lessons learned from Loudoun County, VA’s unique data center experience. On the calls we also discussed urgent county issues facing members within their communities, and I offered a short summary of my background and NACo platform. We just held our final webinar last week. Early in May, I attended the Western Interstate Region Conference hosted by Maui County, Hawai’i and had a chance to meet with NACo members from the WIR states and discuss many of their unique challenges. Having lived in CO, AK, UT, AZ, and NM during my Air Force and nonprofit careers, I found wonderful, shared experiences with my NACo colleagues. The most impactful moment for me was watching the two-hour, award-winning and locally made documentary “Lāhainā Rising” screened at the conference. It tells the story of the devastating fires that destroyed Lāhainā and showcases the remarkable resilience and courage of the entire Lāhainā community. Now, I look forward to meeting many of you face-to-face at the NACo Annual Conference and Exposition in New Orleans, July 17-20th.
