HomeMy WebLinkAbout070126 email - Press Release_ Jefferson County Maintains Moderate Fire Danger Rating Through July 4th Holiday WeekendGood morning,
The Jefferson County Fire Marshal and local Fire District Chiefs met on Tuesday, June 30 to review current weather, fuel moisture, and fire behavior conditions ahead of the Independence
Day holiday. Based on that assessment, officials have determined that the county will remain at a Moderate Fire Danger rating through the July 4th weekend.
The decision to hold at Moderate, rather than elevate the rating, was driven by three factors: fuel moisture levels have recovered in recent days, temperatures over the coming week are
expected to run at or slightly below seasonal norms, and no significant wind is forecast. Officials note these conditions remain dynamic and will continue to be monitored closely, with
the rating subject to change if conditions shift.
This determination follows last week's advisory <https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/m/newsflash/home/detail/1764> , which noted dry field conditions despite forecast precipitation, and comes
on the heels of a wildfire contained just outside Port Townsend city limits on June 24. A Moderate rating still means fires can start and spread from most accidental causes, and officials
are urging continued caution.
