June revenue forecast presents a mixed outlook, with an expected budget shortfall ahead
Washington’s June revenue forecast presents a mixed outlook, according to the Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council. While legislation approved during the 2026 legislative
session is expected to increase projected Near General Fund revenue through 2031, slower economic activity has reduced the state’s projected revenue by nearly $1 billion compared with
the February forecast.
Although the June forecast projects higher overall revenue than February due to the legislative changes, it falls short of the revenue assumptions used to build the enacted 2026 budget.
As a result, lawmakers are expected to face a larger budget shortfall as they begin work on the 2027–29 biennial budget, unless the state’s fiscal outlook improves in the next two revenue
forecasts.
