Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC)
Regular Meeting Minutes
Wednesday May 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Jefferson County Courthouse—First Floor Conference Room, 1820
Jefferson Street, Port Townsend, WA(HYBRID)
Members: Chair Tom Thiersch,Commissioner Heather Dudley-Nollette,Adam Levin,Nicole Gauthier, Steve
King,and Diana Grunow
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Thiersch called the meeting to order at the appointed time. In
attendance were Members: Gauthier and King. Also in attendance was WSF Community
and Legislative Liaison Tally Teal.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Chair Thiersch opened the floor for public comments, and no comments
were received.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Member Grunow moved to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of
March 11, 2026,as presented. Chair Thiersch seconded the motion. The motion carried.
UPDATE FROM WASHINGTON STATE FERRIES(WSF) STAFF: WSF Community and
Legislative Liaison Tally Teal provided the committee with WSF updated the Committee
• Port Townsend-Coupeville has 2n vessel Friday-Monday until full service June 14, 2026
• Community meeting Tuesday,May 26, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. and another at 6:00 p.m.
• Expect to see increase in reservations during the World Cup
• Pet Policy trial ended and WSF is evaluation feedback and will implement a modified policy
May 19, 2026 as transitional period until taken into full effect on July 1, 2026.
• June 1, 2026 is the 75th anniversary for WSF, and celebrations are planned
o WSF flag on top of the Space Needle
o Special logo for the 75th anniversary
o Vessels will have the special logo flag
o Giveaways
o Radio show on May 29, 2026
o June 1, 2026 Sodexo food service will provide free small popcorn or coffee with
each purchase
DISCUSSION re: Resolution regarding unexcused absences: Chair Thiersch read through the
resolution. After discussion,Member King moved to recommend approval of the amended
resolution to the BOCC as discussed to read as"two unexcused absences in the calendar year".
Member Grunow seconded the motion. The motion carried.
GENERAL DISCUSSION
o Transit connections: Chair Thiersch commented on the Sunday Service success with
its inaugural opening there were 550 riders.
o Road work affecting terminal traffic: Member King noted the chip seal project on
Sheridan and SR20 will be in July or August and will be night work to help reduce the
congestion of traffic.
o Tourism: Not discussed
o Ferry Rider: Member Grunow provided feedback from her ticket booth conversations
with employees and has not heard any complaints.
o FAC Executive Committee and FAC-T meetings: Chair Thiersch does not have an
update to provide but will reach out to the Evans School. He shared that he is Co-Chair
of the FAC-T.
PUBLIC COMMENT: No comments were received.
CLOSING REMARKS: Not discussed.
NOTICE OF ADJOURNMENT: Chair Thiersch adjourned the meeting at 10:39 a.m. until the next
regular or special meeting as properly noticed.
