Trump has once again defied the will of the American people by attempting to slash three million acres of protections and virtually eliminate Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante
National Monuments in southern Utah.
His executive order defies Intertribal collaborative management and shared stewardship of these landscapes. It also comes at a time when 91 percent of Western voters across party lines,
including 86 percent of Utahns, want these monuments protected1.
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante are irreplaceable. They protect sacred Tribal cultural landscapes, incredible wildlife habitats, world-renowned recreation, precious clean water,
and some of the most spectacular wildlands on Earth. These places are part of America's natural legacy -- not leverage for political agendas or extractive industries.

I have visited Grand Staircase-Escalante many times, and I keep going back for the freedom, connection, and peace it brings me. This landscape is unlike anywhere else in the world, and
it deserves to be protected so that everyone can experience it for themselves.
I've written and called my representatives, and traveled all over the country to advocate for these monuments -- talking with public land users, legislators, and ordinary citizens like
me. So many of them dream of seeing these places in person. Whenever I describe my experiences there, one thing always comes to mind: the pictures do not do it justice.
