County Commissioners:
On p. 11, July 1 of The Leader there is a quote from Chairman Allen: "There is no development. We have no plans for development other than upgrade the properties for the purpose of
the tourists that can go on the beach."
First of all, there should be no "tourists" on Protection Island. The island's dedicated to the nesting birds and the marine mammals.
Secondly, pigeon guillemot nest on the beach and the harbor and elephant seals pup (have their young) and "loaf" there. On Violet Spit -- again a beach front area -- the gulls nest.
Finally, we know that PT has rats. If rats ever get on the island, ground nesting birds would not survive long.
I would appreciate a response to my comments.
