This new regulation effectively changes established law that requires the government to give asylum seekers the right to an interview. The interview process gives applicants the opportunity to describe their persecution and provide facts that may not have been included in their written asylum application, which are often prepared without the help of an attorney in a language they may not speak fluently. According to the filing, the Department of Homeland Security estimated that the new rule could affect as many as 444,724 pending cases and roughly 132,000 future applicants each year. 👉 Learn more about this new regulation <https://jcira.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e6a5ce9c533fce19d6336ca83&id=a10e642eef&e=e9fe4694e3> 📌Stay Informed: Weekly Policy Updates JCIRA’s Legislative and Policy Team compiles weekly immigration policy updates from trusted sources in both English and Spanish. 👉 Sign up to receive weekly updates <https://jcira.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e6a5ce9c533fce19d6336ca83&id=79997b9c93&e=e9fe4694e3> 👉 View recent updates on our website <https://jcira.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e6a5ce9c533fce19d6336ca83&id=060195d75c&e=e9fe4694e3> 💛 Support this work financially Community support makes all of this possible: from accompaniment and legal clinics to emergency family support funds.
