Apply to serve on the Washington Electric Transmission Authority Board (WETA)
In June of 2026, the Legislature established the Washington Electric Transmission Authority (WETA) to accelerate transmission system upgrades and the development of new transmission
lines across the state. Commerce’s Energy Division is supporting the launch of WETA, and the Governor’s Office is now seeking applicants to serve on its inaugural Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors will provide oversight and guidance to the Authority. You may be a strong candidate if you have experience in any of the following areas:
* Consumer- or investor-owned utility, preferably with transmission expertise
* Rural county land‑use planning, law and local permitting
* Clean energy development
* Ratepayer protection
* Electrical work related to building transmission infrastructure
* Financing large infrastructure projects
* Wildlife conservation and land‑use policy
* Representation of electrical workers with experience constructing transmission infrastructure
* Representation of federally recognized tribes, including tribes whose reservations or ceded lands are in Washington state
Board member requirements:
* At least one board member must have expertise with the Bonneville Power Administration's transmission service.
* At least half of the board members must reside east of the Cascade crest.
* Board members may not represent an entity that owns or operates electric generation or transmission facilities.
