NACo and NACHSA urge CMS to revise Medicaid community engagement rule
NACo and the National Association of County Human Services Administrators (NACHSA) sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Administrator Mehmet Oz raising concerns
with the interim final rule implementing Medicaid community engagement requirements under H.R. 1. The letter warns that the rule's narrower definition of medical frailty — requiring
proof a condition "significantly impairs" someone's ability to work — will be hard for counties to administer and could cause eligible residents to lose coverage. Counties in nine states
directly administer Medicaid eligibility ahead of the January 1, 2027 deadline, and NACo and NACHSA are urging CMS to align the rule more closely with the statute to limit added burden
