What do a handwritten letter, a century-old photograph, and a horse-drawn carriage have in common? Hint: Each one tells a piece of Jefferson County's story - and each one deserves to be preserved! When you visit the Museum of Art + History or the Rothschild House, you're seeing only a small fraction of the more than 500,000+ items cared for by JCHS. Behind the scenes, our team is working to preserve these irreplaceable pieces of our shared history. One of the most important ways we do that is through digitization. Digitization allows us to make high-quality digital records of the items in our collection, making them available online for all to view. Every donation—large or small—helps preserve Jefferson County's history and make it accessible for generations to come. DONATE TODAY <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3ynybvar> Each week, your donation to the Summer Supplies Drive also enters you into a drawing for fabulous prizes! This week, everyone who makes a donation will be entered to win an exclusive Behind-the-Scenes at JCHS experience! Behind-the-Scenes at JCHS Go behind the scenes with JCHS Director of Collections + Research Ellie DiPietro for an exclusive tour of our collections. Explore artifacts rarely seen by the public, learn how we preserve and care for our collections, and get a glimpse into the work that happens beyond the galleries. (Up to 10 guests.) Double Your Impact! Are you making your first gift to JCHS? Thanks to a generous matching donor, your contribution will be doubled! Every first-time donation will be matched dollar for dollar until we've unlocked $2,000. Match applies to donors making their first charitable contribution to JCHS. Membership purchases do not affect eligibility. History isn't just found in textbooks: it's tucked inside letters, found in photographs, and preserved in everyday objects. Here are a few remarkable pieces from the JCHS collection that digitization helps preserve and share: Left: Metsker's Map of Port Townsend to Irondale, Dated June 25, Revised Oct. 1929 Right: Aerial photograph of Port Townsend, 1927 Maps & Technical Drawings Our maps collection includes oversized maps and technical drawings that are too large for a standard scanner. To digitize them safely, JCHS built a custom scanning setup that captures these remarkable documents in high detail. While many are already available online, even more are waiting to be uploaded and shared. Aerial Photographs of Jefferson County Our collections include hundreds of aerial photographs documenting communities across Jefferson County over many decades. More than 350 images <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vp epdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c42gxqscp> are already available online, with hundreds more currently being digitized. Together, they provide a fascinating look at how neighborhoods, shorelines, farms, forests, and towns have changed over time. <https://usercontent.flodesk.com/491002e5-8637-4c65-b204-03f6a34c379f/upload/zzduoserfu/default_%2821%29.jpg> Above: The Rothschild House, built by Horace Tucker in 1868. Photo from 1875 Horace Tucker's Woodworking Tools Architect and builder Horace Tucker used these tools to build many early Port Townsend homes, including the Rothschild House. It's remarkable to see just how many specialized hand planes were needed to create the decorative trim found throughout his buildings. Today, 65 of these tools <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c436sche2> can be explored online. Thank you for helping us preserve the stories that make this place home. <https://usercontent.flodesk.com/491002e5-8637-4c65-b204-03f6a34c379f/upload/smnyzm7o3f/Screenshot_2026-02-10_145249.png> <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c44vjhsv8> <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c45n78an1> <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c483qw2td> <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/c/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c487561as> 540 Water Street Port Townsend, Washington 98368, United States Unsubscribe <https://form.flodesk.com/preferences/RzhMaVRMWDRYRGlURGg2MEVYWGtZUVg5WHhnSlh4N1drNmFHVTI0diZHa21UdW83VkxhR1VEJjlMR2FTd2gxLXhVVG5NRjRqUUhrWXdrWG5XYUxnU0ZXNE1KYklEYyYwclJZaU9CMzZLejNMeWwxM 3hSWWZRTjc/unsubscribe> or Manage Preferences <https://form.flodesk.com/preferences/RzhMaVRMWDRYRGlURGg2MEVYWGtZUVg5WHhnSlhBNldBU05uTkxYZlF6OVNDaCZZRyZTb1hSWGlJWnk4dWE0WXVOT3FPQjBhTkMzUEhjMFVGUE1nR0 VaalFGOVBIOTIySg> <https://e3swye.fg44.fdske.com/e/o/01kzxn13fgn10zpg6c3vpepdjr>
