Tip for submitting an exemption application
When submitting an exemption application, ensure your supporting documentation addresses how your building meets the exemption criteria. Frequently, applications include documents that
are not relevant to the exemption being requested, which leads to delays, requests for additional information, or even denial. To avoid these issues, select two distinct supporting
documents that directly demonstrate your building’s eligibility.
Clear, relevant documentation is essential to a successful application and will help streamline the review process.

We continue to hear that many building owners have recently received letters, notices or marketing materials, including robocalls from third parties that appear to come from, or refer
to, the Department of Commerce or the Clean Buildings team. Unfortunately, some of the communications may be misleading or contain inaccurate information.

Incentive update
Tier 2 incentives and connected buildings
When a Tier 2 covered building is connected to a non-covered building by a shared utility meter, the activity type and activity gross floor area of all connected buildings must be reported
for compliance. However, only the square footage of the Tier 2 building(s) is eligible for the Tier 2 Incentive.
The gross floor area of the covered Tier 2 building is calculated and verified on Form B – Activities/EUIt, of the application within the Clean Buildings Portal and should correctly
populate the Owner Reported Tier 2 (GFA) field of the Incentive Enrollment tab. If you notice any variance or inaccuracy in the Owner Reported GFA field, please leave a note for Commerce
as we review the Incentive portion of the application.
