SUBJECT: Request to Convene for the Pnrpose of Hearing Property Tax Appeals for
the Year 20ll; .Jefferson County Board of Equalization
ST A TEMENT OF ISSUE:
Pursuant to RCW 84.48.010, the County Board of Equalization, with the approval of the County Legislative
Authority, may convene at any time when the number of petitions filed exceed twenty-five or ten percent of
the number of petitions filed in the preceding year, whichever is greater,
ANALYSIS:
Currently, the number of petitions on tile exceed ten percent ofthe number of petitions tiled last year,
FISCAL IMP ACT:
The amount of the Board of Equalization's budget (Line #001-061-000) is $7,980 trom which the members
receive a per diem of $75.00 for each day of attendance at a Board of Equalization meeting. While the
number of meeting days vary each year, the Board met an average of 18 days per year over the last three
years. Members are also reimbursed at the current mileage rate for travel expenses when it is necessary to
conduct property inspections in the course of carrying out the duties of the Board.
RECOMME","DA nON:
Having met the requirements of RCW 84.48.010, it is recommended that the Board of Commissioners
approve the Board of Equalization's request to convene for the purpose of hearing property tax appeals for
the current year,

NOTICE OF APPROVAL TO HEAR PROPERTY TAX APPEALS
JEFFERSON COUNTY LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY
The county board of equalization, with the approval of the county
legislative authority, may convene at any time when petitions filed
exceed twenty-five, or ten percent of the number of appeals filed in
the preceding year, whichever is greater. (RCW 84.48.010)
Pursuant to RCW 84.48.010, the Jefferson County Legislative Authority hereby approves the
J efterson County Board of Equalization's request to convene for the purpose of hearing property
tax appeals for the current year. This approval is based on a finding that the requirements for
convening under RCW 84.48.010 have been satisfied.

NOTICE OF MEETING OF THE
JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
\fotiee is hereby given that the County Board of Equalization will convene at 9:30 a.m. on July
15,2011 at the Jefferson County Courthouse, County Administrator Conference Room, 1820
Jeflcrson Street, Port Townsend, Washington, and will continue in session and adjourn from time
to time for a period of not less than three (3) days, and not to exceed twenty-eight (28) days.
Meetings will be held for three days in July and August and at other times as required, to publicly
examine and equalize the assessments extended in the current year on the taxable property of said
county, for taxes to be levied in the year 20 II and to correct all errors in valuation, description or
qualities of property assessed by the Assessor. The owner or agent of any taxable property who
feels there are inequities in their assessment or exemptions may file a petition and appear before
the board at the time and place appointed. Appeal forms may be acquired from the Jefferson
County Board of Equalization, 1820 Jefferson Street/P.O. Box 1220, Port Townsend,
Washington, 98368.
