STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Colin Foden requested the Board of County Commissioners to approve the attached proclamation.

Proclamation
WHEREAS, a local community radio station contributes to the quality of life in the
community; and
WHEREAS, community members have access to an FM radio service that is
educational, entertaining, informative and relevant; and
WHEREAS, members of the community have an inclusive forum through which to
express their ideas, opinions and concems; and
WHEREAS, the radio service is sustainable by community support and appreciation of
high quality in the areas of broadcasting, management, funding and programming; and
WHEREAS, the community is provided with an eclectic variety of music, arts, issues and
current events; and
WHEREAS community radio is part of the emergency preparedness system; and
WHEREAS, signal coverage includes Port Townsend, Chimacum, Quilcene, Port
Hadlock, Irondale, Whidby Island, Sequim and Port Angeles; and
WHEREAS, the community recognizes the work of the all-volunteer members of the
working Board, Colin Faden President, Ann Katzenbach Secretary, Collin Brown Treasurer,
Lawrence Stein Programming, William Putney Engineer, and former Board member Sherry
Jones in building the community radio station; and
WHEREAS the community also recognizes the invaluable assistance of scores of
volunteers including Nancy Sendler, Lou Schneider, Marilyn Butz, Barney Burke and Andrew
Palmer; and
Now, therefore, be it proclaimed, by the Jefferson County Commissioners to recognize the
first community radio station dedicated to serving Jefferson County which began broadcasting
on May 14, 2011 as
KPTZ 91.9 FM Radio Port Townsend
and call upon the people of Jefferson County to join us in observing this occasion.
