- Other: Prioritize regular updates to inform our situational awareness and work together on adaptation strategies.
Help organizational partners move forward by: reviewing their plans, actions and progress to address climate change and make periodic recommendations
Question 2: Please share your reasons for your answer above
We are running out of time, have a federal government that is ignoring and thwarting climate science, mitigation, adaptation and recovery efforts and opportunities, it is upon us to
save this place we love to create a sustainable future for our community and our bioregion.
CAC cannot supersede independent governments and agencies. Its best role is coordinating action, sharing information, and giving participating governments and agencies the tools they
need to be successful.
Increased government and public connection and transparency across sectors.
We are running out of time to create and implement a plan to sustain our beloved community and bio-region.. Our federal government has abandoned and thwarted climate change science,
mitigation, adaptation and recovery for the pursuit of money, power and militarization. We concerned citizens with any agency need to make this work our highest priority: to take care
of this place we love and the people in it.
With limited funding for climate response, having a continued push for climate action is needed.
Question: I really don't understand what "climate implementation" means?
CAC organizations need citizen input to address climate change and citizens need a forum to address climate change and communicate related needs. Help organizational partners by reviewing
their plans, actions and progress to address climate change and make periodic recommendations
leverage all the orgs around the table plus other relevant ones to identify a few areas where we can collaborate and move forward. ID some top funding opportunities, and work with other
orgs (JCF, NODC) to go after funding for implementation.
By definition, we are an action-based committee. Would like to ground our work in being of service by helping to drive best practices and implementation of climate initiatives
Question 3:

- The participation of civically focused non-profits is also important.
Please share your reasons for your answer above:
Within the ICG, the CAC would maintain a voice and agency for climate mitigation and adaptation, and it could allow for shared funding across the different ICG organizations for the
CAC. It would be great to have a CAC seat at the table for Local 20/20, Community Wellness and Jefferson Community Foundation.
We are all stakeholders in solutions to climate change, and the current structure leaves the city and county holding the bag. In addition to the existing broader structures (ICG, NODC),
we should consider structures which will drive strong participation from private employers, community organizations, and other agencies not represented (EJFR, EDC).
I believe this is committee is best housed under the City/County umbrella.
I don't have a strong view here
Greater information sharing and reduced redundancy of services.
Big picture analysis indicates a "polycrisis" situation that will possibly unfold as a major economic downturn. Localization of supply chains for our community's basic needs will require
an "all of government" effort. The CAC (and ICG) brings County and City governments together with other policymaking junior taxing districts and non-profits to engage in critical thinking
and problem solving.
CAC needs to be an official entity with defined scope, tasks, and responsibilities. The ICG may not be able to do that? Second option would be to have it as a Jeff Co. Committee
What would we lose if the CAC were not a committee under the county and/or city?
We would lose agency to inform and implement a plan for community wide climate mitigation and adaptation
Boilerplate structure for an advisory committee, public meetings/records, etc.
Coordination and understanding of what other agency's were working on.
Access
Local Government connection and possibly transparency.
It is time to collaborate with all concerned and capable organizations who share a vision of renewable energy generation, stewardship of land and water and care for our vulnerable populations
and species.
Dedicated free meeting space, paid zoom account, outreach, web hosting with dedicated staff, staff time, continuity, access to county and city staff.
Our elected officials have the authority to write policy and levy taxes to fund priorities for the public good. Having these officials at the table working together is an effective strategy.
many or all of the accomplishments of the CAC. because of the rate of change of climate, it is easy to put off in face of more pressing needs. without an official CAC set up as a
citizen only group, jurisdictions may put off actions addressing climate change
May be harder to pull all organizations together, lose some influence. Lose leading by example of city and county.
It’s possible with any city or county turnover, we could be at risk of being under-utilized or seen as a long haul partner. Being under city/county I think gives us credit and proximity
we’d be at risk of losing if not under that umbrella.
What would we gain if the CAC were not a committee under the county and/or city?
None
Other parties might be more open to collaboration without the perception of requiring alignment with city and/or county policies.
Public Meeting requirements
Some freedom?
Not sure
Don’t know. Seems like CAC has greater influence and voice as a committee of the city and county than if on our own.
Freedom to advocate more strongly, flexibility.
see above
can't think of anything
Some additional flexibility in terms of changing mission and doing outreach.
Unsure
Please share any other thoughts or feedback to inform the CAC
It is a crucial time for collaboration, and a shared commitment plan and action to achieve some goals on renewable energy generation, microgrids, heating and cooling shelters, sea level
rise preparedness, and food resilience are needed to ensure we can take care of this place we love and the people in it.
Thank you for asking these questions.
Thank you to everyone who has been sounding the alarm over the past years.
With challenging budget shortages the city and county are having to focus on mandated work. A change could be made to allow greater flexibility of leadership and action. However, it
would lose the steadiness of county admin support.
reform the cac into a citizen only committee
form it in county and city code
task it with tracking status and developing issues in cc and periodic, e.g.annual reporting (to C of PT, BoCC) including state of climate, accomplishments, opportunities, recommendations,
and work plan.
