Friends, Neighbors ~
I was in D.C. last week, ready to work and vote for our communities — but once again, Speaker Johnson cancelled all votes. That didn’t stop me from showing up: hearing directly from
families who lost loved ones to ICE violence, demanding accountability, and speaking out about the rising cost of health care. I also took the softball field with colleagues from both
sides of the aisle to support young breast cancer survivors and to find a little joy in a difficult week.
Let’s jump into it – Here’s your 6 for the 6th:

ICE Shooting in Austin, TX.
* Once again, ICE has shot someone — this time in Austin, Texas.
* A fascist police force is shooting people in our streets at the direction of DHS Secretary Mullin, Stephen Miller, and Donald Trump.
* We need body camera footage. We need a full, independent investigation. And if any ICE officer broke the law, they must be held accountable.
* I joined Rep. Casar in sending a letter to DHS Secretary Mullin demanding an independent investigation of the shooting. Read more about the letter HERE <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqCli

ation-ice&redir_log=727255442191836> .
* This war on immigrants and Black and Brown communities is making us less safe every single day. When Democrats have the gavels, we will hold them accountable. I joined my colleagues,
including Austin Rep. Casar, in demanding answers. See more HERE <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&cid=WA06ER&crop=14610.6528569.5438748.7318396&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2

Hearing from Families Whose Loved Ones Were Killed by ICE
* Under Trump’s second term, at least 58 people have died while in ICE custody, 20+ people have been shot by immigration enforcement agents.
* At a joint House and Senate Oversight Shadow Hearing last week, I heard directly from the family members of those killed by ICE agents, including Rachel Reyes, the mother of Ruben
Ray Martinez; Donna and Brent Ganger, mom and sister of Renee Nicole Macklin Good; Stelle Carlson, the women who recorded the death of Alex Pretti; Ronaldo and Lorenzo Salgado, the
sons of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo; and Sean P. Murphy, the representative for Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero’s family.
* The families of those who were shot and killed by ICE agents deserve accountability, justice, and policy changes that will prevent atrocities like these from happening in the future.
* In every case – every one of these families – and the American people deserve real investigations and real solutions.
* Thoughts and prayers are not enough. See more HERE. <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&cid=WA06ER&crop=14610.6528569.5438748.7318396&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww.ins

A Win for Washington State Voters 🏆
* 🚨Another Win for WA State and our democracy! A federal judge has ruled that the lawsuit by the Trump Administration to access Washington’s State voter rolls was against federal law.
* The constitution is very clear that states have the power to oversee their own elections, not the federal government.
* Washingtonians know and trust our mail-in voting system. For nearly two decades rural folks, Tribal members, elderly neighbors, and busy parents have been able to safely and securely
vote by dropping their ballot in a dropbox or mailbox.
* We trust this system. Former Republican Secretary of State, Kim Wyman, trusted this system. There are no demonstrated forms of voter fraud that should cause the federal government
to overtake our election system.
* I’m glad to see checks and balances at work, and grateful to Secretary of State Steve Hobbs for standing up for Washington voters and fighting to keep our elections secure.

Coming Up: Apple Health Enrollment Period + Trump Healthcare Cuts🍎
* Health care is more and more expensive across the country, including in my congressional district. Hospitals are more at risk in the 6th than any other hospitals in the state because
of the cuts made by Republicans in H.R.1, the “Big, Beautiful, Bill” as they call it.
* Just this week, 11,000 WA residents <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&cid=WA06ER&crop=14610.6528569.5438748.7318396&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww.kuow.org%2fhealth%2f
2026-09-30%2f14-000-wa-residents-expected-to-lose-medicaid-oct-1&redir_log=155339923917597> are expected to be kicked off Medicaid. Folks who are losing coverage are refugees and people
seeking asylum, people granted a reprieve from deportation or removal, survivors of domestic violence with a pending or approved application for lawful status under the Violence Against
Women Act, survivors of trafficking with a pending or approved T visa, members of a federally recognized Indian Tribe or American Indian born in Canada, and conditional entrants granted
before 1980.
* These cuts are going to make people sicker or make people die because fewer people are going to have access to health care – whether it's Medicaid or private insurance that they can
no longer afford because Republicans refuse to reenact the ACA tax credits. Those tax credits are helping Democrats and Republicans in both blue states and red states.
* In Washington state, neighbors have already lost their health coverage and more are going to lose their benefits when the Medicaid cliff goes into effect October 1st.
* H.R. 1’s cuts will push neighbors already on Apple Health off Medicaid, leaving those who earn too much to qualify but can’t afford other coverage stuck without health insurance. To

Congressional Softball Game🥎
* Heyyyy batter batter! At the end of September I played in the Congressional Women’s Softball Game! Our bipartisan congressional team fought hard against the women of the press, but
we fell short, losing 22–16. I scored twice – once while Rep. Sharice Davids was up to bat and CRUSHED a GRAND SLAM clearing the bases for Team Congress!
* We still won the night by raising $882,956 for the Young Survival Coalition, which supports young breast cancer survivors.
* I always enjoy getting out on the field with Republicans, Democrats, and the press. It’s about raising money for a good cause, building collegiality, and finding some joy together
in this hard work! See more HERE <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&cid=WA06ER&crop=14610.6528569.5438748.7318396&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww.instagram.com%2fp%2fDd7C

Trump Using YOUR Taxpayer Dollars for TV Advertisements…of Himself 🤮
* My neighbors are struggling to afford gas, groceries and just about everything else — while Trump is using YOUR tax dollars to pay for football ads starring himself.
* $2.5 million in taxpayer dollars <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&cid=WA06ER&crop=14610.6528569.5438748.7318396&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww.pbs.org%2fnewshour%2fpo
litics%2fhomeland-security-spending-20m-in-taxpayer-funds-for-pro-trump-ads&redir_log=68957725479728> went toward creating this commercial and airing it during NFL games. That’s your
money — [that could be going towards] and you deserve better.
* People across the country deserve a president and a Congress focused on lowering costs, not spending your money to boost their own egos.
