Last week, the final public hearing for the draft Ninth Northwest Power Plan was held in Seattle. Over the course of the nearly two-hour hearing, we heard from around 30 people representing
Tribal Nations, commercial fishers, faith communities, environmental organizations, rate payers, students, parents, and more.
Each person spoke to their own lived experience and unique perspective, but a few themes came through loud and clear: we are all deeply concerned about the climate crisis, our salmon
and rivers, holding data centers accountable, and the health and well-being of our communities.

Thank you to everyone who provided such powerful public testimony and to Council Member Golden and Vice-Chair Purce for their time, kind consideration, and expertise.
We heard a shared call for the Northwest Power and Conservation Council (NPCC) to meet this moment with the ambition it demands.
The region’s electricity demand is projected to increase by 50-100% by 2046. Much of that growth was expected and represents real progress towards a cleaner future as we electrify our
buildings and transportation to meet Washington's nation-leading climate goals. But the rapid growth of power-hungry data centers introduces significant uncertainty about just how much
power we’ll need and how we’ll meet that demand.
The Ninth Power Plan will help determine the path forward: Will we double down on fossil fuel infrastructure and continue to rely on an aging hydrosystem that threatens our salmon? Or
will we maximize renewable energy and energy conservation, including demand response programs that require major energy users to do their part to alleviate the strain on our grid they're
creating?
The Ninth Power Plan is one of, if not the most consequential power plan the Northwest has ever developed—we have to get it right. The comment period closes Friday, so this is your last

from large data centers, share why. And urge the Council to require data centers to shift their energy use when the grid is strained, rather than putting that burden on families or
