HomeMy WebLinkAbout082211_cbs01 JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners Philip Morley, County Administrator FROM: Raina Randall, Deputy Clerk of the Board DATE: August 22, 2011 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming the Week of August 21- 28, 2011 as Olympic Peninsula Senior Games Week STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Read and Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming the Week of August 21 - 28, 2011 as Olympic Peninsula Senior Games Week RECOMMENDATION: Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming the Week of August 21 - 28, 2011 as Olympic Peninsula Senior Games Week gjk Date PROCLA1v1A nON WHEREAS, the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games will be held on August 26 - 28, 2011; and WHEREAS, the Nation's Baby Boomers have moved beyond sex, drugs and rock and roll and embraced health and fitness as a lifestyle; and WHEREAS, the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games provide the Baby Boomers and everyone 50 years old and above a competitive sporting event; and WHEREAS, this is the seventh year of the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games; and WHEREAS, the Senior Games offers 18 Sports and 63 Events over three days in August; and WHEREAS, over 600 senior athletes are expected to participate; and WHEREAS, the Senior Games bring together senior athletes from Washington State and around county and Canada for competition, fellowship and fun; and WHEREAS, participants in the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games value fitness as a lifestyle and dedicate themselves to breaking down the stereotypes of aging; and WHEREAS, Entity pays tribute to the achievements and contributions of athletes 50 years above and older; NOW, THEREFORE, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim the week 0 August 21 - 28, 2011, as O~wqJLo1'~Senior GlNWUW and welcome all participants and spectators attending this event on the Olympic Peninsula , PROCLAIMED this 22nd day of August, 2011.
