SUBJECT: Update on the Status and ActlvltIes of the North Pacific
Coast Marine Resources Committee (NPC MRC).
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Jefferson County Public Health, Water Quality DMslon, Is requesting the opportunity to
update the Board on the status and actlvltles of the North Pacific Coast Marine
Resources Committee for western Jefferson and Clallam Counties.
ANALYSIS/STRATEGIC GOALS/PRO'S and CON'S:
On September 8, 2009, the SoCC signed a joint resolution with Clallam County to form
the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee (NPC NRC). MRCs are county-
appointed committees created to engage citizens to set priorities and design locally
important projects to help understand, steward and restore marine ertvironments. Staff
and Interested Jefferson County citizen representatives would like to share information
about the current activities and priorities of the committee.
Recent NPC MRC efforts have included:
· Supporting scientific and educational activities linked to coast resources
. Supporting the annual coast-wide beach clean up
. PUbliShing an annual newsletter, the West End Natural ResoUrces News
· Coordinating with other coastal MRCs from Grays Harbor, P~cific, and
Wahkiakum Counties to identify common issues and opportunities including the
creation of a new coast-wide committee to advise the WA Department of Ecology
· Monitoring emerging issues such as the tsunami debris from Japan, beach
mining and ocean energy

Funding for staff partldpatlon in the NPC MRC will be provided by WDFW as pass
through funds from Clallam County through an Interlocal agreement This agreement for
2011-2012 Is antldpated but not yet In place. The General Fund will not be affected.
RECOMMENDAnON:
JCPH Management recommends the Board allow staff and Interested citizen
representatives to update the Board on the status and activities of the North Pacific
Coast Marine Resources Committee.
