re: Washington State Department of Natural
RE:
Resource County Income Report, and Community Forest Trust Nomination
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
This is a regular quarterly briefing by regional representatives of the Washington State
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on their updated harvest data and projections from
State Forest Board lands, the revenue from which is distributed to the taxing districts in which
the forests are located. In addition, this will be an opportunity for the Commissioners to dialogue
with DNR staff on the Community Forest Trust Nomination recently submitted by Jefferson
County to DNR.
ANALYSIS:
See attached letters from Commissioner Peter Goldmark and Olympic Region
Manager Susan Trettevik. DNR staff will bring additional information to the July 16 meeting.
This will also be an opportunity to have discussion regarding the Community Forest Trust
Nomination to retain in public ownership as working timberlands 2,208 acres of lands currently
owned by DNR that are otherwise at risk of transfer and conversion to other uses.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Futures Funds, as well as to the junior taxing districts.
RECOMMENDATION:
Hear the update and Participate in the discussion that follows. Also
determine if DNR has additional information relating to the Community Forest Trust
Nomination.
