Commissioner Sullivan asked if there was a breakdown ofthc Law f,ibrat~~ extension? Crnmrv
r~~mittistrator \~lorlcy ansc~~cred nu and he soil! request that inlimnation lion: the Stq?erior Court
admir:i;rator.
Chairman Austin opened the hearing Rn- public testimony
l om i'hiersch: He is concerned about the lack of information for the Law Library expenses. l-he Board
shouts review that information before approving the appropriation. While the hard copies of RCIUs may
be convenient for some people, buying a S500 iYad would be convenient liar use during a u-ial. The
legislature changes the RC W's quickly and updating theta et°cry time is an unnecessary cost. The
Sheriffs office is asking for an additional $5.000 ~yhich states for ~cnentl equipment. The public should
know what the money is for before being approved. is it Ior riyo flat screens'? The lack ofdetail is
disntrbing. Retarding the $23,000 proposal for upgrading recordint, there has already been three
updates done and video was not included in those previous updates 1'hc video option should be
included so the public can watch these sessions.
-tike Belenski: [Ie seconds what \4r. Thiersch stated. The Law Librar} should have the bound copies
because they reference the court cases for the specific RC W. He prefers using the books because ii he
uses the electronic copy, the Prosecuting :\tnxncy-s oificc records what hr has researched. «'hat does
the Board do to protect the. public's search history? \tr..4lvarer shouldn't be allowed to ask Iv9r.
Shambley what he has looked at in order to crab his case. There are 49 items missing from the Sheriffs
ol7ice. «ho did the imesti~~ation and where did those items go'? Vow. tltev want 55.000. and ibr what?
Is someone going to go shopping with the proposed 55.000 and put all of the items in the trunk of their
car? lfow do you track what they use their shtff for and that stulf is not stolen'? U~ by is the upgrade for
the recording equipment important? Does someone in l f have a brother-in-law that needs business? lie
would like w know what the Roard is doing to protect. people's privacy regarding a l~'estlaw se;u-ch.
7ltere is nothing prohibiting ~4r..4lvarez getting a print out ofn'hat he has searched fitr.
Hearing no fttnher testimom. Chairman Austin closed the hearing.
Counri Administrator Morley stated he will provide a breakdown of costs for the Law Library and will
speak to the Sheriff regarding what equipment that office ma}' be buying. In some cases, if the
equipment is for a specific npc oY invcsti,~ation, the inli>mtation may not be given for public safety. He
ma}' be able to obtain the information for the afternoon session. however, it may not be available until
the next regular meeting.
