REVIEW
re: ERPRC Recommendation for Parks and Recreation
Motion to “The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners has concluded its review of the final
recommendations report of the Exploratory Regional Parks and Recreation Committee (ERPRC)
satisfying the July 31, 2012 benchmark of the City of Port Townsend and Jefferson County
Interlocal agreement originally signed on September 13, 2010, and amended on June 22, 2011.
The Board of County Commissioners recommends that ERPRC’s recommendation for a
Metropolitan Park District (MPD) be further refined in partnership by community stakeholders,
the City, County, the school districts and healthcare providers to: define the mix of facilities
including maintenance, operation and capital needs and recreation programs for inclusion in the
MPD proposal; to review costs and financing plans in comparison to available revenue; and to
refine the geographic boundaries of an MPD; all in preparation for potential submission of a
MPD proposal to the voters, along with a clear statement of interim and long term alternatives to
a MPD.”
