HomeMy WebLinkAbout031113_cbs02Regular Agenda JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners Philip Morley, County Administrator FROM: Leslie Locke, Deputy Clerk of the Board DATE: March 11, 2013 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION in Recognition of the Significance of Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission's Centennial STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Commissioner John Austin has requested that the Board review a proclamation in recognition of the Significance of Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission's Centennial on March 19, 2013. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the PROCLAMATION in Recognition of the Significance of Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission's Centennial. REVIEWED BY: `~ Philip Morl y, unty Administrator ~~ Date PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the natural, cultural and historic values of the Washington State Parks contribute significantly to the quality of life enjoyed by the residents of Jefferson County; provide an ideal environment for the community and families to gather and celebrate their heritage and common interests; and provide an environment for fostering strong intergenerational ties; and WHEREAS, public access to natural, cultural and historic resources assures the enjoyment of these values for people from all walks of life; and WHEREAS, preserving natural, cultural and historic resources provides a legacy of incomparable value to future generations; and WHEREAS, outdoor recreation contributes significantly to the economy, employment and well-being of Jefferson County; and WHEREAS, Jefferson County enjoys several State Pazks such as Fort Worden, Fort Townsend, Fort Flagler, Dosewallips, Mystery Bay; Anderson Lake, Clearwater, Triton Cove, Rothschild House and others; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is to acquire, operate, enhance, and protect a diverse system of natural, cultural, historic and recreational sites; fostering outdoor recreation and education for the enjoyment and enrichment for all, and a valued legacy to future generations; and WHEREAS, the uniformed Ranger has been the icon of mentorship and virtue, and the supporting staff; volunteers and partners the dedicated engine for growing and enhancing an iconic pazk system; and, WHEREAS, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will enter its Centennial year on Mazch 19, 2013 and Jefferson County recognizes the public servants who have operated, supported and safeguarded our State Parks; and NOW THEREFORE, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners will join the staff, supporters, partners and patrons of the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission to proclaim the Significance of Washington State Parks during its Centennial Anniversary and ask all citizens to join in the efforts on March 19, 2013 to show support and recognition for this celebration.
