SUBJECT: Agenda Item — Nomination of Craig Schrader to the
Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee (CF Committee) Chair Rick Jahnke, Vice
Chair Lorna Smith and county staff Tami Pokorny would like to recommend Craig Schrader for
appointment to the CF Committee to fill the existing "open interest" vacancy.
ANALYSIS /STRATEGIC GOALS /PRO'S and COWS:
This CF Committee vacancy was advertised in the Leaderon June 12. Mr. Schrader expressed
an interest in serving on the committee prior to the June 26 deadline. On July 15, 2013, Rick
Jahnke, Lorna Smith and Tami Pokorny interviewed Craig Schrader in person and reviewed his
application materials.
Mr. Schrader is a past employee of Jefferson County Environmental Health Department (Water
Quality) who was actively engaged in watershed management through the WRIA process. Prior
to that, he conducted shellfish surveys for WDFW. Between 2005 and 2009, he served as a
regional extension educator for the University of Minnesota promoting conservation drainage.
Mr. Schrader holds a PhD in soil science with a focus in agricultural climatology and soil physics.
As he enters retirement, Mr. Schrader would like to work towards the preservation of important
open space resources in Jefferson County, his chosen home. Prior to applying for this volunteer
position, Mr. Schrader attended a number of CF events including the most recent site visits and
the BoCC hearing on 2013 projects.

With extensive experience in natural resources topics and abiding interest and commitment to
resource conservation in Jefferson County, we feel Mr. Schrader would be a strong addition to
the CF Committee.
Mr. Schrader is the only applicant for this vacancy.
FISCAL IMPACT /COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact to the county's General Fund for appointing Craig Schrader to serve on
the CF Committee.
RECOMMENDATION:
JCPH management recommends the appointment of Craig Schrader to represent the interest
"Climate Change" on the Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee.
